Plastic and Bakelite Radios

Welcome to this photo gallery of neat small radios.  "PAA" means this radio was Photographed At Auction and is not in Don's collection. If a dollar value appears after PAA it means he noted what someone other than him paid for the radio.

NOTES:

25may07---  added the really neat Motorola ML-52M found at Al's New Used,  Zenith H615-Z1,  Also the pink RCA clock radio

2oct06--- study of the General Electric tube line ups is interesting. Note the combinations of mixed generation tubes.... the 12S-- series mixed with the more modern 12B-- series. It's like they couldn't make up their minds to switch completely to the new generation of tubes i.e. 12BA6, 12BE6, 12AT6, 35W4, 50C5.  On the other hand maybe the 35W4 and 50C5 weren't available at the time these mixed generation radios were designed.  Interesting.

26june06---when Don saw the Philco 97 code 121 today it took him back 33 years. At that time he acquired one of these with a badly damaged case and a broken part in the Telechron clock. He built a wooden case for this radio and repaired the broken clock part. The radio served him for years. Wish he'd kept it. Will post some digital pics of the old film pics I have of this radio in the wooden case. Pictures of the re-cabineting and clock repairs went into his application to BC Institute of Technology in 1975. They were to demonstrate his ability. Don was accepted for electronics training..... so, this radio was a special to him and here he found one in good shape all these years later. Searching for a schematic using model 97 turned up a model 97 with older tubes including an 80 rectifier.....so will have to go to other sources to get the schematic.

7jan06---started repairing damaged case of Philips 905.... its a cute little radio worthy of restoration..... see pics in Current Restorations....
